Alumni Spotlight: Khalid Al Omran Al Qubaisi - Founder and CEO of TTS Consulting, Qatar
Bridging the gap between personal experience, academic theory and real-world application for business leader and consulting entrepreneur in Qatar
Khalid Al Omran Al Qubaisi is the founder and CEO of TTS Consulting, which he established to support new startups and help existing businesses thrive, in the State of Qatar. The company provides business intelligence and support services – including advisory services in management, economic, commercial and project management - to businesses across industry verticals from its corporate headquarters in Lusail. He set up the company in 2020, after completing the Global Part-time MBA (GMBA). Prior to this, Khalid had already gained substantial leadership experience in senior HR and general management roles with leading companies in Qatar, including QIA (Qatar Investment Authority) and Ooredoo.
In 2023, Khalid took on an additional role as Management Consultant at Qatar Charity, where he uses his diverse range of skills and experience as Head of Tendering Committee and Head of Strategy Office. Qatar Charity is a non-governmental organisation founded in 1992 to help address the most important development and humanitarian challenges faced by vulnerable communities around the world. Initially founded to provide life-saving assistance to children affected by conflicts or natural disasters, Qatar Charity then expanded its areas of expertise to include various humanitarian and development aid fields, providing relief and assistance to more than 110 million beneficiaries worldwide.
Khalid explains his motivations and describes his MBA experience.
One of the main reasons for pursuing a master’s degree in Business Administration was my desire to delve deeper into the academic aspects of this field of activity. It offered an opportunity to develop my skills, explore theories and different schools of thought, and to learn from the real-world experiences of commercial companies.
“More specifically, it was the opportunity to study the theory of project management and sales, as well as explore the practical, real-world experiences of companies operating in this field. The GMBA’s combination of theory and practice was certainly an attraction and of course, the opportunity to put the theory and my new learning into practice through my current roles at the time.
But ultimately, the main driver for pursuing my MBA studies was the increasing demands of my various leadership roles. These required continuous development and the appropriate study programmes - and the qualifications - to demonstrate this. It all started when I was promoted to a leadership position and I decided that I really needed to pursue higher education to align with my new role and to further develop my professional and practical skills.
Of course, it’s not just about what you study but who you study with. I believe that interacting with fellow students from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds across the world significantly enriched my own master’s learning experience with Manchester and their unique perspectives and expertise contributed greatly to my learning journey. The master’s experience also helped significantly develop my skills in project management and marketing strategy.
There’s no doubt that the University of Manchester offered all the benefits of an international university with global centres in key business cities and students of nationalities who enhance the knowledge exchange.
So, Manchester met all the criteria – I was seeking a prestigious international university for my master’s studies, and I chose Manchester due to its strong global presence.
After graduating, there are plenty of opportunities to engage with the University’s regional team through events and networking, and there’s an active alumni group in Doha. I have just started work on a project to develop a business model for Qatar, with the team at the Middle East branch, in Dubai. Manchester encourages lifelong learning and I am constantly reading - especially around the field of management – and striving to develop my skills. Because learning never ends.
